On your marks!!

Mary, Joseph and their donkey are getting ready for a long journey

Advent Sunday has traditionally seen the start of a long journey for the (woolly) Mary and Joseph. We have sent them out from church that day to go round schools and villages. They’ve been given bed and lodgings for the night before coming back to church on Christmas Eve. This is to mirror the long journey they had to make from Nazareth to Bethlehem, some 70 miles or so on foot. They were required to do this as a distant power in Rome ordered all to return to their home village to register for a census. Joseph had to make that long journey with Mary who was very pregnant. As we all know, her baby Jesus was born in Bethlehem.

This year we will be doing it all differently. Covid restrictions mean we can’t have our woolly characters going for house to house each day. We are not going to be defeated though. Instead enter a competition (and there will be a prize).

The competition? Guess where Mary and Joseph and their donkey are on their journey round the Woodfield Team area. There will be a new photo each day from Advent Sunday (29th November) until Christmas Eve – guess the location and then there is a tie breaker to come. The application form will be available later in the week to download.  Follow on Facbook at https://www.facebook.com/woodfieldchurcheschildrenswork/  or https://www.facebook.com/Woodfieldteam/

As a warm up, this week we’ll be giving a few hints of what is to come.

How will they know where to go? Did they have maps back then?

Right now Mary and Joseph are planning their journey. Which paths will they take?

Are these hints as to where they might be planning to go?
